Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "Plankton!" Plankton Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). "And now for my very elaborate and college educated plan." With a goal of controlling SpongeBob's brain, Plankton is presented in this treacherous original Master setup from Episode 3's eponymous "Plankton!" of the mega-popular Nicktoon SpongeBob SquarePants. This long-running Nickelodeon original debuted in 1999 with a traditionally cel animated first season before transitioning to digital for the next 14 (and counting!) seasons. Writer and voice actor Doug Lawrence played a critical role in Plankton evolving from his initial (and originally intended only) appearance in his titular July 17, 1999 debut segment until he was officially billed as a main cast member in the 2004 feature film. "Plankton!" followed the titular villain in his first of many attempts steal the Krabby Patty secret formula. The interior of SpongeBob's head is seen first near the 5:08 timestamp just after Plankton makes his way inside, with his scheming character image spotted soon after as he unfurls his grand plans near the 5:57 timestamp of the segment when viewed online. Hand-painted to full-figure, he measures 4" x 4.75" nicely centered on the 12 field cel which is numbered in the lower right. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 14" x 10.5" overall with production codes along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 3 include Andy 'Spike' Clark and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including small areas of paint wear/chipping to the background, overall this guileful villain is in Very Good condition.
