Description

The Riveter Donald Duck and Pete Rare Publicity Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). Collectors of publicity art are in luck because we have a rare 12 field 5-peghole publicity drawing from The Riveter in this lot. The Riveter was directed by Dick Lundy and premiered on 3/15/1940, following the many perils Donald faces after taking a riveter position with foreman Pete. Some notable animators on the short included Preston Blair, Dick Lundy, Charles Nichols, Hal King, and Judge Whitaker. Publicity drawings like this were used to promote the short in either standalone illustrations or scenes that were displayed with descriptions, publicity, and cast and crew information in magazines like Good Housekeeping. A few great Disney publicity artists in this era were Manuel Gonzales, Tom Wood, and Hank Porter, who created work for tie-in and publicity comics, magazines, photos, posters and title cards, insignias, and storybooks. The graphite drawing in this lot has Donald showing Pete the 'Riveter Wanted' sign, much to the foreman's surprise after he just threw the last riveter out. Donald will soon face the same fate, and Pete will not let him go quietly. The image measures roughly 8'' x 7.5'' in size and the page is unnumbered. The lot is in Good condition with light edge and handling wear, faint toning, pinholes, and a faint crease.
