Aesop and Son "The Sick Lion" Leo's Dressing Room RARE Production Background (Jay Ward, 1961). "Humans sing. Lions roar." This Aesop and Son fable is about a hypochondriac lion who sneezes every time he roars; his real ambition is to sing! This very rare 12 field production background from the Season 2 segment shows Leo De Lion's dressing room in a fantasy sequence that has him a singing star in Las Vegas, as seen at about the 4:46 timestamp. The gouache on Bristol board background is by one of Jay Ward's favorite artists, Sam Clayberger (1926 - 2018). Sam was savvy enough to save some of his original art from the Rocky and Bullwinkle programs he worked on; most Jay Ward Productions art was discarded due to space limitations, so a humble item like this is really a very rare piece of art! The condition is Very Good with light handling wear and tack holes in all four corners.From the Archive of Sam Clayberger and Michael Kadin.
