Description

Dudley Do-Right "Sawmill" Snidely Whiplash and Runaway Buzzsaw Production Cel on Master Background (Jay Ward, 1959). When Snidely Whiplash runs off with Nell at Dudley and Nell's wedding, Dudley waits to pursue them (he doesn't want to miss out on the wedding party's food); eventually he rescues Nell and sets Snidely's huge sawmill blade loose. In this original hand-inked, hand-painted trimmed production cel, the runaway buzzsaw blade has reduced the mill to sawdust and is now chasing Snidely down a steep hill, "heading in the general direction of downtown." Snidely and the saw have an overall image size of approximately 4" x 3.25". The cel is placed on a Jay Ward background that is not quite screen matched but is very similar. The cel is stapled to the gouache on board background, and both are trimmed to 12" x 9". We suspect this setup was originally housed in a Jay Ward Productions mat and sold at the Dudley Do-Right Emporium in Hollywood (open from 1971 to 2005). The cel and background are in Very Good to Fine condition with some handling wear and trimmed edges' there's a small tear in the cel along the bottom left staple.
