Description

Rudolph Dirks The Captain and the Kids Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (United Feature Syndicate, c. 1930-40). Descended from Germany's Max und Moritz cartoons and an Americanized successor, The Katzenjammer Kids, this feature reflects Dirks' long-running exploration of mischief and subversive rebellion -- a theme that doubled as personal commentary after a 1910s copyright dispute stripped him of his original Katzenjammer title. Dirks' unique and quirky sense of humor is on full display in this lively Sunday strip rendered in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 20.75" x 13.5. Dated 2-6 (no year provided). Pinholes in the top corners. Minor creasing in the first vertical tier. Light toning and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
