Mickey's Rival Original Production Drawing Featuring Minnie Mouse and Mortimer (Walt Disney, 1936). In these rare vintage production drawings from Mickey's Rival, the debut of the mischievous Mortimer Mouse is brought to life with charm and charisma. As Mortimer, portrayed as an arrogant yet charismatic shyster, seeks to impress Minnie, he playfully asks for her approval before cunningly pulling the picnic blanket from beneath Mickey and Minnie, draping it over himself in a mock-heroic gesture. With a flourish, he dances, using fried chicken bones as castanets, captivating Minnie's attention and stoking Mickey's jealousy. This evocative scene, from near the 3:57 mark of the short, showcase the dynamic animation style of Disney's golden age. Illustrated in graphite and color pencil on 12 field 5-peghole animation paper, these drawings, numbered 43 and 77, retain their vintage charm despite minor wear and age-related toning. Animated under the direction of Disney Legend Wilfred Jackson and brought to life by animators including Les Clark, Dick Huemer, Ollie Johnston, and Frenchy de Tremaudan, these drawings stand as timeless treasures of Disney animation history.
