Description
Disney Studios Employee Appreciation Events Group (Walt Disney, c. 1970s-80s). After a film wrapped, it was not uncommon for the studio to hold some sort of event to celebrate the work that went into the production, and here are some related items to those employee-only happenings. First the program booklet for "A Tribute to Walt Disney Productions" Banquet that honored members of Walt Disney's "Nine Old Men." This happened on April 9, 1978 by Delta Kappa Alpha, a division of the University of Southern California School of Performing Arts. This Awards Banquet is held annually; this one was the 39th event. Honored that evening were Virginia Davis McGhee (Disney's first film star, appearing in the early Alice films); Clarence Nash (voice of Donald Duck); Ward Kimball (one of "Walt's Nine Old Men"); singer Peggy Lee (voice of Peg in Lady and the Tramp); Fess Parker (star of Daniel Boone TV series); writer Ray Bradbury; actress Jodie Foster; and animation design artist Mel Shaw. The 16-page brochure measures 5.5" x 8.25", and includes a loose program sheet. Also included is an original placemat from the banquet, with caricatures of the "Nine Old Men" plus one (Disney Legend Inductee Ken Anderson). The placemat measures 14" x 11", and has a minor water stain in the upper right and a soft crease. Also included: a letter on The Rescuers stationery with printed signatures of Card Walker and Ron Miller. Next is an invitation to attend a benefit event screening The Fox and the Hound, measuring 5.25" x 8" folded. A "Coming Soon to Radio City Music Hall" invitation to see The Black Cauldron measures 11" x 4.25"; and finally, a group of five 6.25" x 2.5" tickets for a fun-raising event, "Magic Day at Disneyland."
