Description

Rube Goldberg - Taxes and Tariffs Comic Strip Original Art (c. 1910s). Goldberg takes aim at society's most annoying offenders in this early untitled comic strip (#48), proposing they be taxed and tariffed for their sheer exasperation! Long before his name became synonymous with overly complex contraptions performing simple tasks -- the legendary Rube Goldberg machines -- he was already using satire to poke fun at human absurdity. A true Renaissance man, Goldberg's creativity extended beyond comics into sculpting, authorship, engineering, and even invention, making his career as unpredictable as his machines! Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 15.5" x 12.75". Tears on top/bottom edges (longest is 4"), clipped corners, toning, soiling, smudging, and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
