Description

Leonard Starr Mary Perkins, On Stage Daily Comic Strip Original Art Group of 2 (Chicago Tribune/N.Y. News Syndicate, 1978). Most of the drama in On Stage takes place off-stage: This sequence of private-life conversations fulfills that imperative most agreeably. In the episodes from 7-27 and 7-28, 1978, star player Mary Perkins contemplates a fateful mystery, while a goofy-looking fellow acknowledges his acting ambitions. Brilliant stuff from one of the absolute greatest realists in comics: Leonard Starr is an essential bridging talent between the dynamism of Alex Raymond (Rip Kirby) and the illustrative mastery of Neal Adams (Ben Casey). Ink over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 16.5" x 5". Excellent condition, with light toning.
