Description

Raeburn Van Buren Abbie an' Slats Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 5-18-46 (United Feature Syndicate, 1946). Bathless Groggins features in this daily as he prepares to welcome the "young orphan" he's agreed to house by setting up a playroom and crib. Little does he know... that's the "little girl" he's expecting in the final two panels! Bathless Groggins was a consistently likeable character whose popularity grew so much that he became the star of most of the Sunday strips. Van Buren illustrated the popular strip throughout its entire 32-year run, and this daily features scripting from Al Capp's younger brother, Elliot Caplin, who took over writing duties from his older brother in 1946. Rendered in ink and screentone over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 18.75" x 5". Lightly toned, with light staining, corner creasing, smudging, and handling wear. In Very Good condition.
