Description

Luis Dominguez Weird War Tales #38 Unused Cover Original Art (DC, 1975). A chilling image of a soldier comforting a dying comrade in his final moments -- while a skeletal hand aims a firearm at them -- perfectly captures the eerie tone of Weird War Tales, where battles were fought not just with bullets but with the bizarre and supernatural. Originally intended as the cover for Weird War Tales #38, this haunting illustration was ultimately set aside in favor of a piece by Joe Kubert -- not bad company to lose out to. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an approximate image area of 10" x 15". Light toning, pulled-tape abrasion on top edge, light smudging, and minor corner/handling wear. Signed by Dominguez in the lower image area. In Excellent condition.
From the Roger Hill Collection.
