Description
My Life Journal Baby Records Book Original Art and Production Materials Group of 61 (Richard G. Krueger/Samuel Lowe, 1941/46). Reminiscing on the long-held parenting tradition of filling out the baby book with all the little one's firsts always brings feelings of sweet nostalgia. Here's a lot that will evoke those treasured sentiments, a generous collection of original art and production materials for a baby record-keeping book titled My Life Journal. Published by toy manufacturer Richard G. Krueger Inc. who had been producing similar baby records books as early as 1916, this book was released in 1946 with a Samuel Lowe copyright of 1941. More notably, Krueger Inc. created plush toys for well-known brands such as Kewpie dolls and Disney in the late 1920s through the 1940s. Every piece of artwork featured in this lot is hand-painted in grayscale gouache with graphite detail and white ink. The Family Tree endsheet has spaces going back to great-grandparents and is rendered on heavyweight illustration board trimmed to 19.75" x 15.25" with a bordered image area of 17.25" x 11.25". Also rendered on heavy artboard is a cover page, trimmed to 12.5" x 16" with an image area of 8.5" x 11.25", which may have been intended for the packaging lid as there are embossing instructions along the lower edge. All 46 pages of interior illustrations are rendered on various sizes of Bristol board ranging from 4.25" x 5.5" to 9.25" x 16" and nearly all are marked in graphite with a page number in the lower right corner. Production materials include letter-sized photocopies of the Table of Contents, Announcements (including a handwritten draft), and Snapshots pages on both standard copy paper as well as semi-transparent onionskin paper. A legal-sized page of family tree labels with space for comments is also present in both standard and onionskin paper copies, along with a film negative of the "How I Dressed Ages 1 to 6 Years" page trimmed to approximately 7.75" x 9.75". Age-related toning appears throughout the lot but is most significant on the Family Tree endsheet. Light smudging and glue staining from previously adhered overlays are also present throughout, but largely do not affect the artwork. With typical handling and edgewear of an over 80-year-old piece, this lot is in Fair to Good condition. From the Samuel Lowe Company Archives.More information about Children's Book Illustrator.
