Description

Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree Storybook Preliminary Illustrations by John Kurtz Original Art plus Print Group of 5 (Walt Disney, 1993). This oft-told tale got a new storybook adaptation in 1993, with art by noted Children's Book illustrator John Kurtz. The story is about Pooh Bear eating too much honey, and getting stuck in Rabbit's hole-in-the-ground doorway. There are four original drawings. The first appears to be an unused wraparound cover illustration, with a large image of Pooh to the right (front cover), and Pooh's tree home doorway (with "Mr. Sanderz" name), and his front yard littered with empty honey pots (back cover). This illustration is in graphite over blue pencil on two pieces of lightweight paper taped to a 17" x 11" backing sheet; approximate image size is 15" x 7.25", with a large Pooh measuring 4.75" x 7". The double-page image of Christopher Robin trying to pull his bear buddy out of the hole is nicely detailed in graphite on 16.5" x 14" paper, with an image size of 13.5" x 9". The page numbers are noted as 28 and 29, and a print of the published book page images is included. Art for pages notes as 6 and 7 are done in graphite and gray wash on 17" x 14" paper, with photocopied text blacks pasted in place; page image sizes are 7" x 9.5" for each. Page images noted as 20 and 21 show Pooh consuming all of Rabbit's honey (6" x 6.5"), followed by a very fat Pooh covered in a sticky glaze, patting his full tummy (5.5" x 5") on paper measuring 17" x 14". All art pages are signed as Kurtz. Condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear, plus tape.
