Description

Al Smith Cicero's Cat Sunday Comic Strip Original Art (c. 1950s-60s). Desdemona gets more than she bargained for when her attempt to blast a bunny backfires, as the rabbit resurfaces with backup from below! Cicero's Cat, the wordless wonder of the Sunday funnies, was created by cartoonist Al Smith in 1933 as a pantomime topper to the long-running Mutt and Jeff strip. Though dated 11-9 of 1980, this particular gag hails from the strip's earlier heyday -- likely the 1950s or '60s -- after Smith began receiving official credit in 1954, and reprinted in syndication after new installments ceased in 1972. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an approximate image area of 24" x 10". Toning, moisture staining on left side of board, whiteout corrections, smudging, minor spot staining, edge/corner creasing, and handling wear. In Good condition.
