Description

Fantasia Chernabog Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1940). The night demon, Chernabog, reacts to the coming of dawn, in this magnificent drawing from the "Night on Bald Mountain" sequence of Disney's classic, Fantasia. The massive character practically fills the 16 field 5-peghole page measuring 9" x 9". As Ollie Johnston and Frank Thomas reported in their 1993 book, The Disney Villain, Chernabog was created by Disney Animator, Vladmir "Bill" Tytla. The winged devil was based on the Black God of Slavonic mythology. Tytla was Ukrainian and based his demon on a creature from Ukrainian mythology -- a mythology based upon the Black Art known as "Chorni-bok." Chernabog was rendered in graphite with red and blue pencil highlights and numbered 165 in the lower right corner. Minor handling and edge wear. Very Good condition.
