Description

John Tinney McCutcheon X-Ray Original Art (Chicago Tribune, c. 1930s). McCutcheon's satirical dissections of politics and the economy earned him popular regard as the dean of American cartoonists. This piece, even without its original accompanying text, conveys well the spirit of sarcasm that ignited McCutcheon's extensive body of work (1903-1946) for the Chicago Tribune. Fans of McCutcheon's cartooning will be delighted to see his signature dog-character (lower right) -- also drawn as a see-through X-ray image. Extensive notes at upper margin contain the artist's instructions for an application of Benday shading, also known as Zipatone. Ink over graphite and blue pencil. Dimensions, 11" x 11". Very Good condition, with handling wear and a small tear at left edge.
