Description

Erwin L. Hess The Good Old Days Sunday Comics Feature Original Art Group of 2 (United Feature Syndicate, 1960-1966). Hess flashes back to the 19th century for these vivid depictions of working-class transportation and recreation -- an open-air trolley for the 9-17-60 installment, and a home-made jumping-stick for the 8-6-66 entry. In the latter piece, Hess makes up a delightfully unique word for the pogo-stick gizmo: "A kangaroodledoo!" (The double-date designations written into the panels mean that some papers ran The Good Old Days on Saturdays, and other papers on Sundays.) . Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 16" x 11". Light/moderate age-toning, with an occasional spot-stain. Extremely tight border-trimming, intruding partially into the inked areas. Otherwise in Very Good condition.
