Description

The Hunchback of Notre Dame Esmerelda and Djali Layout/Storyboard Drawing (Walt Disney, 1996). This handsome final animation layout/storyboard drawing of Esmerelda and Djali inside Notre Dame Cathedral was created by Disney layout artist Peter Bielicki in production of the animated feature. Esmerelda has come to Notre Dame at night, with Djali the goat, to escape Frollo and to pray. They have just stealthily entered the cathedral and must quickly close the door to escape the guards outside. Following a brief conversation with the kindly Archdeacon, Esmerelda sings God Help the Outcasts, her prayer for her people, the gypsies, and all those who live outside the mainstream of society. Quasimodo listens and watches from the bell tower. The drawing is in graphite, drawn edge-to-edge on 7.125" x 4.375" paper, mounted to the back side, with clear tape at the corners, to a 11" x 8.5" blue-paper production sheet, as it was employed in the background department during the making of the film. The form is filled in with production information, initialed by director Kirk Wise and art director David Goetz, and the artist wrote his name in the Layout/Clean-Up space, as P. Bielicki. A Howard Lowery Certificate of Authenticity is included. Condition is Very Good.
