Description

Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind Teto and Nausicaä Animation Drawing (Topcraft, 1984). "Everyone to the castle! Hurry!" Princess Nausicaä commands her people to run to safety from a crashing Tolmekian airship in this fantastic original animation drawing from the Hayao Miyazaki-directed masterpiece Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind. Though it was made before the founding of Studio Ghibli, it is often considered a Ghibli work, and it is released for home media as part of the Studio Ghibli Collection. Frequently ranked as one of the greatest animated films ever made, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind is seen by many critics as a seminal influence on the development of anime, as its success led to the foundation of the celebrated Studio Ghibli among other studios. It was also the first collaboration of Miyazaki and the composer Joe Hisaishi, a partnership that would prove definitive of Studio Ghibli films to come. Rendered in graphite and color pencil, this dynamic drawing of the titular hero and her pet Teto depicts the characters at 10" x 8.25" on the 13.75" x 9.25" animation paper. The drawing is numbered C11 in the upper right corner, and the piece shows minor handling and edge wear. This piece can be seen on page 104 of the German Film Institute's gallery exhibition book Ga-Netchu! The Manga Anime Syndrome. The condition is Very Good.
From the Glad Museum Collection.
