Description

The Little Mermaid Sebastian Character Development Study Original Art Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1989). "How do I get myself into these situations? I should be writing symphonies, not tagging along after some headstrong teenager." Here's a great assortment of early character development art for the red Jamaican crustacean. Sebastian serves as King Triton's advisor and "distinguished" court composer who is regularly tasked with watching over Triton's youngest daughter, Princess Ariel. This wonderful bevy of character development art is from the hand of noted Disney artist, Thom Enriquez. The first piece is a character study, rendered in graphite on 11" x 17" paper. The character study is a series of illustrations that have been created to explore an animated character, after the character has been conceptualized. It acts as a comprehensive guide to map out character traits and "proof of concept." Proof of Concept in animation is the first stage of any character study definition. It is called this because the animator must prove that the character can emote in a way that would make an audience care, empathize and relate. The second piece is a fleshed-out character drawing in graphite over blue pencil on 11" x 14" paper. The third is a hand-colored copy of the second image on 10" x 12.5" paper. All three pieces are signed by the artist. Condition is Very Good with light edge wear and pinholes in the corners from production use.
