Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Doc Rough Animation Drawing Signed by Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnson, Marc Davis, and Bill Tytla (Walt Disney, 1937). "Now, now, now don't get excited. Here we go." No, DO get excited because this one's a doozy, a delightfully expressive rough character development drawing of Doc from Walt Disney's first animated feature film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs featuring the signatures of four Disney Legends: Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnson, Marc Davis, and Bill Tytla! Tytla was a supervising animator on the film who almost exclusively animated the washing scene for the Dwarfs and was once called the "Michelangelo of animators" by the legendary Chuck Jones. Frank Thomas, Ollie Johnson, and Marc Davis, three of Walt's Nine Old Men, served as animators for the film with Davis's focus on Snow White, Thomas's on the Dwarfs, and Johnson serving as an assistant animator. The ever expressive Doc is always talking with his hands, exemplified in this captivating image, and many of his close-ups in the film include frames similar to this image particularly the scenes where the Dwarfs meet Snow for the first time as well as the washing scene. Hand-drawn in graphite and red pencil, he stands half-figured and pleasingly centered on the 5 peghole, 12 field animation paper with a character size of 3" x 3.25" and notable missing his shirt buttons; the number 39A can be seen in the lower right corner. The signatures of Thomas, Johnson, and Davis appear on the front of the drawing below Doc's image, while Tytla's appears on the back side near the center pegholes. With typical studio handling and wear including mild age-related toning, a small tear along the right of the top edge, and remaining tape from previous mounting, this extraordinary drawing is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
