Description

Zack Mosley Smilin' Jack Daily Comic Strip Original Art Dated 12-16-37 (Chicago Tribune Syndicate, 1937). Mosley's aviation strip would become better known for its exaggerated slapstick humor and soap-operatic indulgences, but here the pilot-turned-cartoonist slams smack into what appears to be a fatal crack-up. Bracing and unforgiving in its sledgehammer immediacy, and drawn in a blunt Expressionist style that compares favorably with Chester Gould's Dick Tracy. Ink, Zipatone, and blue pencil over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 21" x 6". Heavy age-toning and edge-staining. Good condition.
