Description

Pinocchio Monstro Rough Animation Drawing Sequence of 4 and Character Study Group of 2 by Bill Tytla (Walt Disney, 1940). The terrible whale Monstro emerges from the depth in this lot with a rare sequence of two rough animation drawings and two character studies, all masterfully crafted by one of Disney's most remarkable animators, Bill Tytla (1904 -1968). The momentous Disney Legend was originally assigned to animate Monstro during the film's early development, and the task later moved on to Wolfgang Reitherman. Wonderfully conveying the sea monster's intense momentum, the four rough animation drawings depict Monstro quickly rising from the water while opening his terrible jaws and then closing them while diving back in. The two character studies show Tytla's rapid and intense strokes forming the shape of Monstro, infusing the images with his characteristic vitality. These drawings are done in graphite and color pencils on 16-field 5-peghole animation sheets. Some sheets show small pieces missing from the bottom edge and minor tears on the right edge. Presenting overall light handling and edge wear from production with normal age-related toning, the condition is Very Good.
