Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Dwarfs Washing Grumpy Rough Animation Drawing by Bill Tytla Group of 8 (Walt Disney, 1937). "Now, scrub good and hard. It can't be denied that he'll look mighty cute as soon as he's dried. Well, it's good for the soul, and it's good for the hide to go..." The unrivaled craftsmanship of Disney Legend Bill Tytla (1904 - 1968) is at full display in this outstanding group of eight rough animation drawings used to create the hilarious Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs scene that showed Grumpy being washed by his fellow dwarfs at the 45:56 mark of the film. A great example of the incredible animation skills that established him as one of the most prominent animators in Disney history, these drawings feature the expressive energy in each image that, when seen sequenced together, brings the characters to life. In each of these eight stunning drawings, rendered in graphite and colored pencil on 12-field 5-peghole animation sheets, we can see how the dwarfs intensely scrub the poor Grumpy, causing his face to shift with the strokes. These exaggerated gestures are a testament to Tytla's skilled eye for capturing motion, even in still images! As a great bonus, one of the drawings feature some sketches on the right side of the animation sheet.
