Description

The Three Caballeros/Saludos Amigos Original Character Concept Sketch for José Carioca Signed by Disney Legend Fred Moore (Walt Disney, c. 1943). An extraordinary original character sketch of José Carioca by Disney Legend Fred Moore. José-the suave Brazilian parrot who debuted in Saludos Amigos (1943) and later joined Donald Duck and Panchito as The Three Caballeros-is captured full-figure in Moore's lively hand. Rendered in graphite and color pencil on 12-field animation paper, the image stands nearly 6" tall and is signed by Fred Moore. Moore's draftsmanship defined Disney's Golden Age: the largely self-taught artist modernized Mickey's look beyond "rubber-hose" circles, helped achieve true on-screen personality with Three Little Pigs, and served as directing animator of the Dwarfs on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. His memorable performances also include Lampwick (Pinocchio), Timothy (Dumbo), and the Centaurettes (Fantasia). Inducted as a Disney Legend in 1995, Moore remains a North Star for animators studying clarity, appeal, and expressive posing. This vintage sketch embodies that legacy-economical lines, confident rhythms, and unmistakable charm-while celebrating one of Disney's most cosmopolitan characters. Condition is Good, with age-related toning, edge wear, and small stains consistent with studio handling and time. A superb, collector-worthy piece from a master.
