Description

Tokyo Disneyland - Pair of Haunted Mansion Burial Crypt Drawings by Marc Davis (Walt Disney, 1979). "When crypt doors creak..." This magnificent pair of exploratory drawings were prepared by Marc Davis (1913 - 2000), for a planned embellishment of the Haunted Mansion Exit Area at Tokyo Disneyland. This final show scene would feature "burial crypts of famous villains," Nero, Jack the Ripper, Medusa, Attila the Hun, and Bluebeard. Alternating with a small talking ghost, the crypts would struggle to open, accentuated by "moans, groans, and screams" emitting from skull medallion-themed speakers. Davis' own conceptualizations are established in pencils, and feature details of some crypts and brief annotations relating to their animation. Measuring 17" x 14", these drawings are in Very Good condition exhibiting minor toning and wear.
From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive.
