Description

Disneyland - Haunted Mansion Costume Ghosts Concept Drawings by Marc Davis (Walt Disney, 1968). Even while on vacation, Walt Disney Imagineer Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) was searching for unusual ways to present ghosts, as testified by these exploratory drawings of costumed ghosts completed during the spring of 1968. In his own words: "I went to the Metropolitan Museum, and they had an exhibition of fantastic costumes out of the fourteenth, fifteenth, and sixteenth centuries. These things were displayed just so, and they were held up. You know, they had a glove and everything was hollow. These thongs were in perfect poses, and I thought it was absolutely incredible. I drew it because I thought it was a fascinating thing." More than 50 years later, the story behind this page of early Haunted Mansion conceptualizations continues to captivate fans, the authors of "Marc Davis In His Own Words" choosing to immortalize it on page 385 of their publication. Measuring 17" x 14", this sheet of rough artwork is in Very Good condition, exhibiting minor wear.
From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive.
