Description

Marc Davis Correspondence and Materials for Disney Research Trip Group of 33 (Walt Disney, 1948). This lot features an impressive 33 documents with information and correspondence from Disney Legend Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) during his trip to England, Denmark, France, Switzerland, and Ireland for research on Cinderella, The Sword in the Stone, Alice in Wonderland, Treasure Island, Fontaine, Anderson Stories, Little People, and Hans Christian Anderson. Included in the manila folder are six pieces of correspondence with official studio stationary, three of which are inter-office communication, that vary from well wishes to information on Davis's accommodations to the rates of exchange. Three letters are from the Foreign Version Department. Also included are three telegrams to Marc in France and Denmark, a double-sided letter that mentions composer and jazz musician Dizzy Gillespie as well as actor Howard Duff, and an official correspondence with RKO Radio Pictures LTD. A separate letter from Heidi Olsen mentions actress Jane Russell and singer Portia Nelson. The back of one envelope has hand-written notes that mention Dave Hand believed to be written by Davis. Four copied pages of expenses are included with notes and adjustments, including books on Hans Christian Anderson for studio use on the adaptations they had planned long before The Little Mermaid. The pieces vary from standard 8.5'' to 11'' to about 5.75'' x 3.25''. Good condition overall with minor edge and handling wear, light age-related toning, and some folds as expected from vintage correspondence.
From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive.
