Description
Bambi Friend Owl Conté Crayon Studies by Marc Davis Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1942). Featured in this lot are three stunning conté crayon studies of Friend Owl by Disney Legend and one of Disney's "Nine Old Men" Marc Davis (1913 - 2000) for Disney's fifth animated feature Bambi. Davis was known by other artists at the studio for his ability to draw animals, a skill he honed over years of studying at local zoos and libraries. This led him to play a key part in creating the character designs and story sketches for the film, constructing beautiful characters that were emotive and dynamic while still maintaining their animal features. These incredible studies are rendered on 16 field 5-peghole animation paper and give an in-depth look at this influential animator's process as he explored the construction, posing, and details of this memorable character. The drawings range from about 5'' x 6.5'' to 3'' x 2.5''. Good to Very Good condition overall with light age-related toning, minor edge and handling wear, and minor smudging. From the Disney Legend Inductees Marc and Alice Davis Archive.
