Description
Cinderella Studio-Used Concept Print Group of 13 (Walt Disney, 1950). From the archive of long-time Disney layout artist and director Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998), comes this collection of studio-used concept prints from the production of the 1950 classic princess tale Cinderella. One of a hand-full of layout artists for the film, O'Connor's most memorable contribution is likely in designing the iconic pumpkin coach Cinderella takes to the ball; he made the decision for the coach to maintain the echoes of a pumpkin after its transformation, and also crafted a real world model from balsa wood and wire wheels to be photographed from different angles as an animation aid. Highlighting elements of her shabby tower chamber and the kitchen contrasted by the chateau's opulent rooms utilized by her step-family, this lot features a large untrimmed sheet measuring 36" x 20" with a matching sheet trimmed into 6 pieces averaging 17" x 6.5" plus an additional piece featuring the three rightmost images trimmed to 9.5" x 20.25", all of which were printed from the same master negative. Also included are four 10" x 8" prints of a (believed to be previously unknown) concept for the iconic glass slipper fitting, and a 17" x 14.25" studio-printed model sheet with preliminary designs for the horse who would later be given the name Major. With typical handling and edge wear including age-related toning, fold creases, pinholes, surface wrinkles with minor edge tearing, and light surface wear/debris, overall this rare collection from the personal archive of a Disney Legend is in Good condition.From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
