Description

Pinocchio Original Published Parody Art by Jim Russell with Ken O'Connor's Walt Disney Studio Breakfast Menu (Walt Disney, 1940). Travel back to the '40s with this lot, featuring a hilarious original caricature by Jim Russell (1909 - 2001) parodying Walt Disney's Pinocchio paired with Disney Legend Ken O'Connor's (1908 - 1998) copy of the breakfast menu offered at Walt Disney Studios at the time. Jim Russell's caricature features an abridged version of the first half of Pinocchio, taking us through the Blue Fairy granting life to the wooden puppet and his performance with Stromboli, with a last panel showing Walt receiving an award for the film, all done in pen and ink with blue watercolor to indicate tha half-tones during printing, all on a 9.25" x 16.5" board, signed by Russell in the bottom edge and including the final printed version tape to the back. The 6.25" x 9" folded menu is a stupendous window into the dishes offered at the studio in the '40s, as well as the prices for each of the items, listing "one egg any style with bacon, ham, or sausages and hashed brown potatoes. Toast or Rolls. Coffee, tea or milk" for only 40 cents (about $9.20 nowadays)! The original caricature is in Good condition; it shows a fold crease on the top edge, normal age-related toning, white out correction on the last panel, with the cutout on the back presenting light tears and toned tape. The menu is in Very Good condition.
