Description

The Fighting Prince of Donegal Key Art by Paul Wenzel (Walt Disney, 1966). Here's a fantastic image of Hugh O'Donnell from Disney's 1966 live action feature film, The Fighting Prince of Donegal. Hugh O'Donnell was portrayed by Royal Shakespeare Company actor Peter McEnery. This is key art created by Disney's veteran illustrator Paul Wenzel for posters, lobby cards and advertisements. Key art, also called key visual is the artwork which is repeated across media such as posters, print, television and digital advertisements, and game or film DVD box covers. This image and another similar image were used extensively by Disney. Rendered in marker on trimmed paper mounted to 19" x 26" board by Paul Wenzel (1935 - 2022). He was the Disney Studios long-time illustrator who famously painted the Walt Disney portrait used in 1966 for a 6-cent commemorative stamp issued to celebrate the life of Walt Disney after his death. Wenzel also worked on over 100 movie posters during his tenure as a designer/illustrator for the Motion Picture Advertising Department. He created nearly every Disney movie poster prior to 2000. So, there's a very good chance you have seen his work! This is a fantastic piece of Paul Wenzel's original studio artwork. The artwork exhibits smudging, yellowing tape and tape residue and edge wear. Condition is Fair overall.
From the Master Disney Artist/Art Director Mr. Paul Wenzel Archive.
