Description
Donald Duck Lost and Found Little Golden Book #D86 Interior Illustrations by Bob Grant and Bob Totten Original Art plus Published Book Group of 9 (Walt Disney/Golden Press, 1960). Here is original art from the Little Golden Book that famously inspired pop art master Roy Lichtenstein! The story has Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck in Disneyland, exploring Tom Sawyer's Island (which has just recently been closed, on July 7, 2025 and re-themed as Pirate's Lair on Tom Sawyer Island). The gouache on lightweight board art is by comic artist Bob Grant (1916 - 1968) who did the figures, and children's book artist Robert Totten who did the impressive backgrounds. All but one page is still mounted to the production artboard with text and include page 1/Title page with Donald, Goofy, and Mickey (approximate image size 4.5" x 4"); page 5, Donald and Mickey at Injun Joe's Cave (6" x 5.5"); double-spread pages 8 and 9, with two separate illustrations on one art board - page 8, Mickey in the tree house (6.25" x 6") and Mickey walking across the suspension bridge (6.25" x 5.5"); single illustration for pages 10 and 11, featuring Castle Rock (13.25" x 8.25"); single illustration for pages 12 and 13, Fort Wilderness seen from Castle Rock (12" x 7.75"); single illustration for pages 14 and 15, with no production artboard, Mickey is greeted by Goofy (13.25" x 7"); pages 16-17 with Mickey and Goofy in two separate images on one board (6.5" x 8.25" and 6" x 7"); and pages 20 and 21 with Goofy and Mickey, and Donald wearing an Indian Headdress, also in two separate images on one board (5.75" x 5.25" and 6.75" x 6.25"). The page 4 image that inspired Roy Lichtenstein's "Look Mickey" is not included in this group, but a first "A" printing of the published book is included. Most of the art and pasted-on type blocks are coming loose. The overall condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear.Auction Info
