Description
Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol Complete Punch-Out Book with Publicity Negative and Group of 7 Publicity Photos (UPA, 1962). Here's a wonderful group of ephemera for TV's very first animated Christmas special, Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol. In this special, the iconic Mr. Magoo takes on the Broadway role of Ebenezer Scrooge in a wonderfully stylized retelling of A Christmas Carol. First, we have a very rare Mister Magoo's Christmas Carol punch-out figure book. It is entirely unpunched, which is quite hard to find! There are six pages (including covers) of punch-out cardboard figures and props, and the booklet measures 7.5" x 13". It was published by Golden Press in 1963. Next, we have an assortment of black and white publicity photos from UPA Studios. These photographs were created to promote the special. There are seven publicity photos and one negative. The photos are dated to 1962 and 1963. The photographs depict scenes and cels from the special, as well as images of some of the key players in the special's production. One image depicts director Abe Levitow in the studio in front of some production materials. Three of the photographs depict Jim Backus, voice of Mr. Magoo. The photos range in size from 7" x 9" to 8" x 10". They have various annotations and paste-ins on their backs, many of which were original to their use as publicity and marketing images. The negative, which measures 4" x 5", depicts Jim Backus posing next to standees of Tiny Tim and Scrooge. The pieces are in Good condition overall, with some handling and edge wear. Some of the photos have creasing/rippling, as well as some toning and minor staining.From the Darrell Van Citters Collection.
