Description
Astro Boy Production Cel with Master Background (Tezuka Productions, c. 1980-81). Based on Osamu Tezuka's groundbreaking manga that inspired an entire artistic movement, the 1980 Astro Boy series offered a color version of the 1963 animated hit of the same title. Presented is an exceptional hand-painted original production cel, displayed over a stunning and rare original production background hand-painted in gouache on background board, possibly from the series. It can be seen on page 109 of the German Film Institute's gallery exhibition book Ga-Netchu! The Manga Anime Syndrome. The piece measures 14" x 9.75", and it shows minor handling and edge wear from normal production use. The background contains production notes, and has small pinholes in all corners except the lower right. Some light fading in the linework, and the condition is Very Good.From the Glad Museum Collection.
