Description

Wonderful World of Oz - Proposed Theme Park Original 20" x 10" Concept Art by William Stout for "The Great Imperial 3-D Wonder Show" (LEG, 1999). This original piece of concept art was created by Landmark Entertainment Group for a proposed Wizard of Oz-themed park to be called Wonderful World of Oz. Rendered in gouache on 20" x 10" illustration board by acclaimed illustrator William Stout and dated 1999, the piece was developed for "The Great Imperial 3-D Wonder Show," one of the park's proposed attractions. Stout, celebrated for his fantasy and paleontological art (Heavy Metal magazine and The Dinosaurs: A Fantastic New View of a Lost Era), has worked across film (Ralph Bakshi's film Wizards and Invaders from Mars), album covers (The Rolling Stones, The Who, and The Yardbirds), posters (The Ramones), and theme park design, making him an ideal contributor to Landmark's ambitious project. Landmark envisioned Wonderful World of Oz as a fully immersive destination recreating the beloved environments of the 1939 MGM film, from Munchkinland and the Yellow Brick Road to the Wicked Witch's Castle and the Emerald City. Plans went beyond rides, proposing stage shows, themed retail, and advanced attractions that blended narrative with emerging technology. Although never realized, this artwork offers a glimpse into Landmark's vision to merge timeless storytelling with immersive design. The concept art is signed and dated, includes a protective sheet, and is presented in Very Good condition.
