Description

Samuel "Sam" Armstrong It Isn't the Original Cost, It's the Upkeep Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (Tacoma, Wash., News-Tribune, c. 1920s). In this large editorial cartoon from over 100 year ago, future Disney Studios artist Sam Armstrong (1893 - 1977) takes a look at the rising cost of maintaining the county's fleet of automobiles. The $43, 419.01 cost seems paltry in our time, but it was a fortune in the 1920s! This is when Sam was an art editor/cartoonist and founder of an art school in Tacoma, Washington. This comics panel is in ink on a sheet of Bristol board measuring approximately 21.75" x 25.5", with an image area of 20.5" x 21". The signed art is in Good to Very Good condition with some handling and edge wear plus mild soiling in the outside borders and mild age-related board toning.
