Description
Millennium Actress Chiyoko Fujiwara Production Cel (Madhouse, 2001). "Drink this. What may not be united in the realm of the living shall be united in the realm of the dead." A spectral figure appears before Chiyoko and offers her a cup of tea, as she remembers from one of her movies, or maybe it's one of her actual memories? A beautiful homage to the life of the Japanese actresses Setsuko Hara and Hideko Takamine, Satoshi Kon's last traditionally animated movie Millennium Actress presents in his signature storytelling style an awe-inspiring animated film about a movie maker accompanied by his younger cameraman as they interview the actress Chiyoko Fujiwara about her life and career. A film within a film, Millennium Actress seamlessly merges the actress's personal experiences with her roles in the many movies in which she performed. In this lot, we have a splendid production cel from the 29:32 mark of the movie, featuring Chiyoko characterized as a princess in feudal Japan with the traditional Heian marks on her forehead and a kimono, during the scene that pays tribute to the Akira Kurosawa movie Throne of Blood. Chiyoko drinking from the cup, while tea runs down her face, measures a figure size of 10.5" x 7.5" on the 12 field sized production cel, numbered B39 in the top right corner and displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes. This stunning cel shows very faint handling wear from production use, and it's in Very Good condition.More information about Madhouse Artist.
