Description
Duck Dodgers and the Return of the 24½th Century Marvin the Martian Production Layout Signed by Chuck Jones (Warner Brothers, 1980). "Oh dear, delays, delays. I must get rid of that earth/life. I supposed I shall have to call on Gossamer" reads the hand-written dialog on this rare layout drawing of Marvin the Martian by the hand of the great Chuck Jones. This is the only original production drawing of the character we've seen to date by the legendary animator! We can see this sequence in the Chuck Jones-directed short around the 3:20 mark. In the film's final version, Marvin's dialog changes but he still calls on Gossamer to help him. This extraordinary production drawing is signed by the legendary animator Chuck Jones (1912 - 2002). Chuck Jones began his amazing journey in animation as an assistant animator when he joined Leon Schlesinger Productions in 1933. The independent studio produced Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies shorts for Warner Bros. In 1935 Schlesinger assigned Jones to work with a new director, Tex Avery not as an assistant but as a full-fledged animator. On his way to legendary status he would pick up a Winsor McCay Award in 1974, get a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame in 1995, win a Primetime Emmy in 1980, earn an OSCAR® in 1996, and way too many film festival awards to mention here. This production layout was illustrated in graphite on 12 field animation paper. Signed by Jones and framed to 20" x 18". The drawing is floated in the frame allowing us to view the entire piece. A letter of authenticity issued by Linda Jones is affixed to the back of the frame. The drawing is in Very Good to Fine condition. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Marvin in a layout drawing is very rare. This is the first one we've ever seen.Auction Info
