Description
Susie the Little Blue Coupe Original Layout Drawing by Ken O'Connor Group of 6 (Walt Disney, 1952). Presented in this lot is an astounding selection of rare original layout drawings by Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998) for the unforgettable Disney animated short Susie the Little Blue Coupe. This heart-warming story about the working life of a cute blue car, narrated by Sterling Holloway, was written and adapted by Bill Peet with the assistance of Don DaGradi, and directed by Clyde Geronimi. Each of these wonderful drawings showcases O'Connor's remarkable vision in creating eye-catching compositions, featuring three images with Susie's early, longer design in the showroom, two on 12-field sheets, and one on a 16-field sheet, with one of the 12-field sheets also showing the man looking to buy Susie. Two of the drawings depict the final design for Susie in scene 63 on 12-field sheets, with another showing the man looking back. The drawings are done in graphite, with one of the drawings of Susie's final design done in blue pencil. Four of the drawings feature blue layout documents stapled to the left edge. Overall, the layout drawings show light handling and edge wear from production. The drawing of the man looking at Susie shows light smudging, fingerprints, and staple holes on the left edge.
