Description
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs "Someday My Prince Will Come" Snow White and Animals Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1937). "And away to the castle we'll go, to be happy forever I know," sings Snow White as she prepares Grumpy's gooseberry pie in this phenomenal Courvoisier Setup featuring an original production cel from Disney's 1937 debut animated feature film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. In 1938, an agreement was signed between Walt Disney and Courvoisier, granting him the exclusive rights to market and sell original Disney art, beginning with cels from Snow White. These coveted pieces were exhibited at numerous galleries, including the Julien Levy Galleries in New York and the Charles Sessler Galleries in Philadelphia, proving that Disney production artwork could in fact be sold in the fine art market. Spotted during the iconic song sequence for "Someday My Prince Will Come", Snow can be seen trimming Grumpy's pie near the 1:09:10 timestamp as her forest friends carry the melody to her beautiful lyrics, and ominously just prior to the arrival of the Old Hag with her poisoned apple. Half-figured Snow and the five full-figured twittering birds have each been masterfully hand-inked and hand-painted to heights ranging from 1.25" to 6", meticulously trimmed to image (the standard practice for Courvoisier setups), and paired with a print background for display purposes. The piece has been framed under glass to an overall size of 18.75" x 19" with a mat aperture of 7.25" x 7.5" which the characters fill nearly edge to edge. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. With typical handling and edge wear including minor paint cracking/loss with faint rippling to the nitrate, overall this rare over-85 year old piece of animation history is in Good condition.Auction Info
