Description
Futurama RARE One-of-a-Kind Bender 50" Statue (Fox, c. 2000s). Incredibly RARE! This is an impressive piece of art with an equally impressive backstory. This 50" statue of Bender was once the personal property of Matt Groening, the creator of Futurama and The Simpsons. Groening was friends with the owners of comic book store, Meltdown Comics in West Hollywood. He loaned this statue of Bender to the store for their front window display. When the store told a collector that the statue was not for sale because it was not theirs to sell, it belonged to Matt Groening. The collector did not take no for an answer and contacted a mutual friend, film maker James Cameron. The collector convinced Cameron to ask Groening to sell the Bender statue to him and thus the statue of Bender had a new home. This amazing piece is over 20-years old! Hand-crafted in resin and painted by artists at Fox. The statue exhibits scuffing and debris throughout with chips in the paint - particularly on Benders back shoulder area. The antenna on Benders head has a chip in the top and a crack around the base of the antenna. Exceedingly rare and FANTASTIC! In overall Good condition.
