The three good fairies Flora, Fauna and Merryweather cast their sleeping spell over the castle and its subjects in the gorgeous original concept/Color Key painting by the hand of the great Disney Legend Eyvind Earle (1916 - 2000). Earle's impact on the overall look and feel of Sleeping Beauty can't be overstated. This piece created for the pivotal scene of the film features a similar monotone color palette to that of the final product, and it features some of the greatest hallmarks of the celebrated artist: the trees, the geometric presentation, the bold composition and the deliberate and imaginative texture work. Most exciting of all, however, is the quiet detail of the three fairies flying off in the distance, represented by three glowing dots easily mistaken for stars. An amazing Eyvind Earle castle on it's own, it now has a subtle edge of compelling narrative, making this a must-have piece for any collector.
