Description

Cinderella Opening Title Sequence Background 6.25" x 5" Color Key Group of 4 (Walt Disney, 1950). "Cinderella. You're a sunset in a frame. Though you're dressed in rags, you wear an air of queenly grace." In this lot, we have an absolutely incredible collection of four color layouts created to plan for the memorable opening title sequence of Disney's iconic 1950 animated film, Cinderella. The team of color stylists that contributed to giving shape to this remarkable film includes Mary Blair, Claude Coats, John Hench, and Don DaGradi. Although these show some similarity to the work of Mary Blair, it's unknown who created these beautiful images. Gorgeously rendered in gouache on background boards measuring about 7.5" x 6", these miniature masterpieces show image sizes of roughly 6.25" x 5" and show the coach and horses similar to those seen at about the 0:06 timestamp, the castle with pink and violet tones comparable to that seen at the 0:20 mark, the slipper and doves alike to those seen at the 0:12, and a similar castle with green background to that appearing at the 1:14. It's remarkable how similar some of this images are to the final result! Normal light age-related toning can be seen on the boards. With overall minor handling and edge wear from production, the condition of these remarkable color keys is Very Good.
