Description

The Flintstones Rubble Home Concept Art by Ed Benedict (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1959). Ed Benedict was once asked about the method that he used to design the prehistoric buildings of The Flintstones. He explained that the houses he designed were out of his own imagination, and that he hadn't used references to create them. That makes this beautiful piece of development artwork even more impressive! This original concept drawing was created by Benedict for Joe Barbera's initial network pitch of the show, before the series was even slated to begin airing. The drawing appears to depict the layout of the Barney and Betty Rubbles' house, complete with their rocky driveway overhang. The image is expertly crafted in black pastel on a sheet of 12 field animation paper. This piece was also featured in the 1994 book The Flintstones: A Modern Stone Age Phenomenon. This drawing has immense historical importance, and it is in Very Good condition, with some handling and edge wear from age and use. The page shows some age-related toning and minor staining, as well as minor creasing on the edges.
