Tokyo Disneyland - "DisneySeas IV" Original Acrylic on Canvas Concept Painting by Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw (Walt Disney, c. 1990s). Here's a stunning original concept painting of Tokyo DisneySeas by Disney Legend Peter Ellenshaw (1913 - 2007). Tokyo DisneySeas theme park features creative interpretations of world-famous harbors: Mediterranean Harbor, American Waterfront, and the Arabian Coast. In the late 1990s, Peter Ellenshaw was commissioned by the Oriental Land Company (owner of Tokyo Disneyland) to create artwork for their new upcoming project Tokyo DisneySeas. Ellenshaw submitted a number of smaller paintings for consideration including some similar to his iconic aerial view painted in 1954 of Disneyland. This painting was featured at the grand opening/ribbon cutting ceremony of DisneySea in September 2011.

Known most for his amazing visual effects on Mary Poppins (1964), which would earn him an OSCAR® at the 37th Academy Awards®, Peter Ellenshaw was a matte painter with well over 50 film credits. "When you think that Mary Poppins was made without anyone setting foot outside a soundstage... you get some idea of what he was able to pull off," remembered film critic Leonard Maltin at the time of Ellenshaw's passing. Ellenshaw was personally asked by Walt Disney to help him with his new theme park concept. Walt asked several artists to paint aerial views on the park. Peter created two identical pieces; one in daylight and the other at night. He also did one other thing that Walt loved - he filled the parking lot with cars! Walt would use the Ellenshaw daylight painting on his Disneyland television show documenting the parks construction. The Ellenshaw map showing Walt pointing with an artist's brush has been seen by millions of people on television, post cards, and books including the new Taschen book, "Walt Disney's Disneyland" on the inside cover page and again on page 43. Peter Ellenshaw was named a Disney Legend in 1993. He also has the distinction of having his name appear in a window on Main Street in Disneyland - an honor bestowed upon only a few who helped create the magic. In 2017 Peter Ellenshaw was posthumously inducted into the Visual Effects Society's Hall of Fame.

This gorgeous 14" x 18" original canvas is framed to 26" x 22". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Artwork is signed in the lower left and again on the back by Peter Ellenshaw. The painting is in Fine condition. Fellow Disney Legend, John Hench once said, "When you go to the park, there is no horizon - just Disneyland." This gorgeous Ellenshaw original acrylic on canvas painting of DisneySeas follows his old friend's observation to the letter. It's a stunning piece!
