Description

Terror on the Midway Superman Layout Drawing (Max Fleischer, 1942). This short was the last to be released as a Fleischer Studios cartoon. It was the ninth in the Superman series, which would be continued for eight more shorts by Fleischer's successor, Famous Studios. In this dramatic and highly-detailed layout drawing, we see Superman emerging from the shadows after a mighty tussle with an escaped elephant and lion at the circus. You can see a very similar scene at the 6:44 mark in online viewings. The art is in graphite on a sheet of 12 field animation paper, with an approximate image size of 10.75" x 7.75". An "OK Dave" handwritten inscription in the upper margin is no doubt a sign-off by the film's director, Dave Fleischer. Art condition is Very Good, with some handling wear, corner fold creases (away from the image), and mild paper toning.
