Neon Genesis Evangelion "Rei, Beyond the Heart" Eva Unit 00 Production Cel with Production Background (Gainax, 1995). "Prepare for third stage connection," says Maya as she prepares the activation experiment during the Episode "Rei, Beyond the Heart." If your favorite Evangelion is the Prototype Unit 00, this is a lot you don't want to miss! During the series, the Evangelion Unit 00 is seen in two different colors; first, it appears with orange armor, but in Episode 6, its armor gets severely damaged while Rei protects Shinji from Ramiel's particle beam. It is not until Episode 11 that the blue armor is revealed. Presented in this lot is a fabulous two-layer 12 field-sized production cel showing the upper part of the Evangelion Unit 00 in its orange armor, as seen at the 2:14 mark of Episode 5, as an experiment is being conducted on the mech's activation, seconds before it goes berserk. The hand-painted production cel comes with a production background, numbered 49 in the top right corner, measuring an image size of 13.5" x 9.75" and rendered in gouache on background board. The cel shows some light fading on the linework and light surface scratches that don't affect the art, as well as minor handling wear from production. The production background shows pinholes on the four corners and light handling wear from production. In general, the lot is in Very Good condition.
