Description

Richard Scarry Little Benny Wanted a Pony Little Golden Book Cover Illustration Original Art (Simon & Schuster, 1950). "This is the story of little Benny, who wanted a pony but found a penny." Here is the original cover art to this classic children's storybook, which was illustrated by the great Richard Scarry (1919 - 1994) from early in his career. The book was somewhat notorious for freckle-faced Benny's "frown mask" that was included as the last page. Little Benny Wanted a Pony was one of the rare books Mr. Scarry illustrated that he did not write; the author was Oliver O'Connor Barrett. This superb gouache on illustration board cover image is matted with an opening of approximately 11" x 13" and framed using Plexiglas for an overall size of 19.25" x 21.25". The wooden frame has a few scratches and worn edge spots. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. A print of the published book cover is included. The art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
