Description
Donald Duck's Toy Sailboat Little Golden Book Interior Illustrations by Samuel Armstrong Original Art Group of 11 (Walt Disney/Simon & Shuster, 1954). Donald's prize sailboat model is missing, and Chip 'n' Dale are the suspects in this charming and fun storybook, illustrated by Samuel Armstrong (1893 - 1976). Sam was an animator and director with credits that include Bambi, Fantasia (including the "Night on Bold Mountain" segment), and Dumbo. This group includes eleven original painted illustrations from the first edition of the book, including some that were deleted from later printings. Included is page 12's image of Donald realizing his boat is gone, with an approximate image size of 8.75" x 9.5" (this page is missing from later printings); Donald seeing Chip and Dale in the boat, page 13 (9" x 9.25"); Donald looking through a spyglass, page 14 (9.25" x 8.75"); Donald with a fishing pole, page 15 (9.5" x 10"); Chip and Dale in the boat with Donald's "acorn" lure, page 18 (9.25" x 8.5"); Donald reeling the boat in with Chip and Dale on board, page 19 (9" x 10.5"); the chipmunks tossing the lure back at a laughing Donald, page 22 (8.5" x 7.5"); Donald getting wrapped up in his fishing line as Chip and Dale push off again, page 23 (8.75" x 8.5"); a two-page spread from pages 24-25 in two pieces, the first with Dale jumping on a branch knocking acorns loose (9.75" x 9.5") and Chip loading the sailboat while Donald comes by in a canoe (9.75" x 12.5" with an 8" x 3.5" blank space for text); and finally, the last book page (which we count as 26) with the 'munks replacing Donald's sailboat model on the mantle (8.5" x 8.5"). The art is in gouache/watercolor on skimmed illustration board. Color prints of the book's cover and title page are also included for reference. The art is in overall Very Good condition with minor handling wear.Auction Info
